DivInc Meeting

ALL are welcome at our zoom meeting on Wednesday, September 28 at 6:30pm! Irving’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee (“DivInc”) helps to coordinate events and programs that promote a diverse and inclusive educational environment for all Irving students. We are also seeking a Co-Chair for this year; no other school committee experience necessary! Please reach out to Laura Reeb with any interest at divinc@irvingpto.com, and either way, we hope to see you on zoom!

World Language Program

The World Language Program will come back to Irving this Winter! But we can’t do it without you! This program is taught by both Irving community members and staff. We have taught American Sign Language, French, German, Greek, Mandarin Chinese, Polish and Spanish in the past! This program runs either during lunch/recess or after school in the cold winter months. Students are introduced to basic words and phrases in each language. Do you speak another language? Would you be interested in sharing your knowledge with the Irving student body? We would love to offer whatever language you can bring! Instructors are paid. We will also need to recruit a co-chair to train for next year! Please reach out to Lauren VanderBerg at irvingworldlp@gmail.com with interest or any questions.

Ways to Get Involved

There are SO many ways to get involved at Irving and we would LOVE your help in any way you can spare! Just to name a few:

  1. Become a Room Parent – Get a direct connection into your student’s classroom! We would love to have two room parents per classroom, but are especially in need of parents in rooms that have NO volunteers yet; check here to see if your student’s classroom still needs help! Once all of our slots are full, we will schedule a short kick-off meeting to get everyone on the same page and ready to hit the ground running. You can also learn more about what the role involves here.
  2. Lead or Join a Committee – From helping with planning extracurriculars like our “Eagle Extras” to the book fair, the school yearbook, and everything in between, we would LOVE your help! Please reach out to our Volunteer Coordinators and let them know you’re interested!
  3. Volunteer for One-Time Only Opportunities – If you’re not sure you have time for any regular, ongoing commitments, we would still love your help! Please submit this form to indicate your interest and we will reach out when help is needed with things like event set-up, manning the cash register at one of our fundraisers, delivering new family yard signs or other one-time only activities.

End of the Year & Retirement BBQ

This year’s End of the Year BBQ is in honor of our beloved outgoing Irving Principal, John Hodge. Please help us celebrate with food, music and lots of fun!

Each ticket is $1 and here’s what the tickets will get you:

Drinks: 1 ticket / Chips: 1 ticket / Fruit Snacks: 1 ticket for 2 / Cheeseburger: 4 tickets / Hamburger: 3 tickets / Hot dog: 2 tickets / Brat: 3 tickets / Veggie Burgers: 3 tickets / Pizza: 2 tickets / Sweet Treats: 2 tickets OR 2 for 3 tickets!

All proceeds benefit the Irving Eagles Class of 2023 (rising 5th graders)! If you’re able to help out with the event, please sign up here – we can use all the hands we can get for this big celebration!

Fill the Fridges!

Please help Irving Elementary fight food insecurity in our community! Our school has been assigned to fill the fridges EVERY day from Sunday 1/16 to Saturday 1/22, so on days when school is not in session, please bring any items you can spare directly to the community fridges at Carnival Foods (824 S. Oak Park Ave) or in the Euclid Avenue United Methodist Church Parking Lot (405 S. Euclid). Due to the very cold weather, canned goods have been freezing and bursting, so the organizers are asking us to please only bring non-canned food items at this time. Thank you for your help in supporting our community!
