It’s spring, and almost time for Irving’s garden club! (Ver abajo para español) Who: free and open to all!
When: Most Fridays in Spring, weather permitting, until the end of school. Right after dismissal, 3:05 to 4:15
First garden club Friday April 10
Where: Irving’s Book Worm Garden (south side of building)
Registration?:No! Kids just show up with a grown up who will be responsible for them (grownups don’t need to garden but we do ask them to stay during garden club to help supervise kids and tools)
Do I need gardening experience? No! All experience and interest levels welcome. This garden has something for everyone, and everyone has something to learn no matter their experience level. The more people, experiences, and ideas, the better!
Do I need to bring tools? No. We have tools and gloves in the shed, but feel free to bring your own gardening gloves if you like.
What does garden club do? Come and see! We don’t mind if you pop in and then head out early. Come once, come a few times, or come every week; we’re happy to see you whenever you come.
Our routine: we start off with a snack and a story (that relates to gardens or plants, or what we’re planting that day), then we dig, plant, weed, turn compost and more. It’s all kid friendly and very engaging. Sometimes we have special guests, like the Oak Park Public Library Book Bike or Irving staff, to help us with story time or a garden activity.
How long does garden club run? Weather permitting, we’ll start back up for the season the first Friday in April, 4/10 and go through the end of school.
(Garden club is totally volunteer run, so if we have scheduling conflicts, we have to cancel for that day. We may have conflicts on 5/22 so we’ll let you know about that, and any other dates). How do I know if garden club is canceled? If it’s raining and chilly, or unpleasant for gardening, we will cancel. We always cancel if there is thunder or lightening. We will post on Irving’s Parent Facebook page, and if the weather is bad and you don’t see us in the garden after school, garden club has been canceled for that day. Questions?
?Preguntas? Escribe a Alix, alix.strunk@gmail.com

Spring Book Fair!

The Irving Book Fair will be back after school everyday in the kindergarten hallway during the week of March 2-6, and we’d love your help to make it a success!! Please sign up HERE if you’re able.

Then stop by the Book Fair after school to get some great new books and help us unveil a surprise poster image piece by piece… Each book purchased will earn a colored sticker to put on the wall, which will slowly reveal the final picture as the week goes on.

Proceeds from this Spring’s Book Fair will help Ms. Noonan buy new books for our school library, as well as provide additional support towards our PTO’s Scholarships Fund, which is used to make sure ALL of our students are able to go on field trips, take Eagle Extras classes, attend special events, and more!

Sell a craft or help make the event happen!
Share your Baking skills at the Cookie Crumble (> 2 dozen requested)!

Where: Irving Elementary, 1125 S Cuyler Ave, Oak Park, IL

The Annual Cookie Crumble & Craft Fair at Irving is Saturday, December 13 , and we need your help to make it a success! The Cookie Crumble needs bakers (you can do it!!) for the event, which usually “sells out.” On Saturday, shoppers will come and fill their giftable boxes full of all of the different cookies we have. All funds raised go to the Irving PTO, which helps fund student scholarships, teacher and staff support and appreciation, and more. And if baking isn’t your thing, the Craft Fair is looking for volunteers to help set up, run concessions, and more. The craft fair will feature over 20 talented artisans from across Oak Park – come shop and enjoy, and help out if you can, please!

The Irving School Cookie Crumble is one of the easiest ways to help our PTO raise money to help our school.  You can help in a few different ways.

Do you love to bake?  Sign up below to make 5 dozen of your specialty cookie/treat and deliver on Friday, December 6th to the office, or Saturday, December 9th (between 8-9am) to the cafeteria.

You don’t bake?  Volunteer your time helping us set up the cookies and boxes, organize, and clean up.

Do you like to eat cookies?  Come to the Cookie Crumble between 9-12am and fill an empty box with homemade cookies for $10.  Come early because we usually sell out within a few hours!

More info post to THIS link when available.
