Irving’s Garden Club is in full swing! We hope to see you in the Irving Garden, right after school at 3pm on Fridays; garden club is free, all are welcome, and please bring your grown up to enjoy the garden with you.
This Friday, 5/19: Special guest Senorita Zaragoza will lead us in a celebration of tamales; we’ll read “May your life be Deliciosa,” sample tamales, and plant some ingredients necessary to make a tamal and accompanying salsa: corn, tomatillos, and spicy peppers. (Grown ups, please check in with Alix, alix.strunk@gmail.com, if your child has any food allergies or restrictions). We will also plant our sunflower house, among other fun garden activities.
Memorial Day weekend 5/26: Help us continue our celebration of Asian American Pacific Islander Month by celebrating and planting Chinese vegetables and reading “Ugly Vegetables,” a story about a Chinese American girl who makes soup from her garden that the whole neighborhood loves, bringing everyone together. Taste and enjoy satsuma oranges and roasted kabocha squash (let Alix, alix.strunk@gmail.com know of any food allergies). We’ll be planting seeds and plants, finding lots of insects, a nature craft and more!!
Friday 6/2: Help us prepare our garden for our summer send off. We will finish planting our garden beds with yummy summer veggies and beautiful flowers. And we’ll beautify our garden with a nature craft (nature mobiles to hang from our garden trees).
