Getting Involved and Staying Informed!

What’s Garden Club? When does it meet? When is the Book Fair? What’s the sign up for Zero Waste or Pacers? Who do I ask about donating deserts for teachers lunches?

If these are the kind of questions that bring you to our PTO page, we want you to find the answers! There are several ways to stay up to date.

  1. Check the Getting Involved (formerly the Volunteer) Page. You’ll find contact info, the dates for events (that we know so far), brief descriptions and other links. This page is constantly updated, so check the date at the bottom for the latest updates!
  2. Check our calendar!  We will update the event details with any sign up information as it comes available.
  3. Subscribe to the blog! Where the site does have pages of info, we’ll also post announcements for things too. From the bottom of the home page, look for “Follow Blog Via Email” to enter your email address to follow this blog and receive notifications of new posts by email.
  4. AND Get the latest Irving PTO Update and in your inboxes! Sign up at communications@irvingpto.com!

Irving DIVINC Meeting 9/24! 6:30 PM

Greetings All,

Welcome back to a new school year. Irving’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee is proud to announce some exciting new initiatives and updates for the upcoming year, starting with our new acronym DivInc and a brand new logo! Additionally, we have two new DivInc Co-Chairs, Mechelle Wesley and Lettie Sullivan. Both ladies share a strong commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion and would love your support.

As part of our mission, Irving’s DivInc recognizes the need to include all families, and strives to help build a community and atmosphere at Irving that is welcoming, supportive and inclusive for all. This year we aim to partner with Irving students, families, and faculty to ensure that all voices are heard. Our initiatives highlight: racial equity, gender inclusion, cultural enrichment, support for our families with disabilities, support for single parent families, and many others. They also happen to be FUN! If you are looking to help shape the culture at Irving, have ideas to share, or are just interested in opportunities to become more involved, we welcome you.

DivInc will be holding our first meeting of the year on next Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at 6:30PM. This meeting will be held inside the school library with food and childcare (PS – we are looking to grow our list of babysitters too, so let us know if you know anyone!) available. We hope to see you there!!!

Best Regards,

Your Diversity & Inclusion Committee Co-Chairs,

It’s Thursday! So Pacers Day!

Pacers is Irving’s very own weekly ‘running club’ when the weather is nice.  The kiddos come out of the school during their lunch/recess time and run around the perimeter of the school [Cuyler to Harvard, Harvard to Ridgeland, Ridgeland to Fillmore, Fillmore to Cuyler and back around].  Three laps around the school equals one mile and a foot charm.

Help us get the kiddos outside and running during lunch/recess.  Running brings many rewarding benefits for kids’ physical, mental and personal development.  It’s also fun and anyone can do it!  If you are available, please consider signing up.

PLEASE NOTE: Pacers can only work if we get volunteers and I need at least eight (8) volunteers. We need 2 more for today, 9/19/19: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0a4aaaad2ca2f85-irving

Thank you in advance and if you have any questions, please email me at melissa.dejesus.vasquez@gmail.com.
