The 5th Annual Swap, Shop, and Read

Please join us for an evening of book exchanges, reading, and treats.  We would like families to donate gently used books that can be swapped that night.  The more books you donate, the more books you can swap.  For each book you donate you will receive a coupon for a “new” book to take home with you.  We do have a limit of 5 coupons per child, but more donations are always welcome.  So start looking through your book collections for books that you would like to donate.  Remember, a book you have read many times will be new to another family.  Please insert an exchange slip inside each book when you send it to school.  We will collect all the books and have them ready to swap at our Family Reading Night.  See you there!

Author Visit-Irving

I am excited to announce that Irving will be having a visit from a very famous author, Christopher Paul Curtis at 1:00 on Tuesday, January 24th.  He has written such books as The Watsons Go to Birmingham-1963 (Newbery Honor and Coretta Scott King Award book), Bud, Not Buddy (winner of Newbery Award), Mr. Chickee’s Funny Money and others.  His new book, The Mighty Miss Malone, is coming out in January.  This presentation and book signing will be for 4th and 5th grade classes only.  We will also be welcoming Longfellow’s 4th and 5th grade classes to hear the presentation with us.  An order form from Magic Tree Bookstore is going home this week for students to purchase books.  The form can also be found on the Irving Digital backpack.  Students who purchase a book will get it signed by Mr. Curtis.  Please return the order forms by Tuesday, January 17th.
Thanks!

INDOOR RECESS VOLUNTEERS DESPERATELY NEEDED!

The cold is coming and the roster is looooooow. Flyers are in the digital backpack again, but if we need people at lunchtime next week because it’s too cold for outdoor recess, things will be tough!
If you haven’t already, please consider at least signing up for the occasional lunch spot. C’mon, you’re there already… We love our school 😀
