Fall Book Fair

Greetings Irving community,
Next week will be our annual Fall Book Fair!  This is a great opportunity to support our Library and Media Center.  Last year we sold over 1,200 books! Our goal this year is to sell over 1,400 books. Please see here for letter from Mr. Hodge.

Upcoming events:

PARENT PREVIEW –  Monday, October 17 after drop-off – – 8:00 – 8:30 am.  Come enjoy some coffee, treats and get a sneak peek at what will be offered at this year’s Book Fair!

BOOK FAIR OPENS – Monday, October 17 at 3:00 pm

The attached link is to the Irving Book Fair home page – – check it out for fair hours, preview of titles available, volunteering opportunities, tracking our goal and other things!  http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bookfairs/cptoolkit/publish/irving-oakpark

All funds raised will be put towards Irving’s Library and Media Center.  Due to our efforts last year, we were able to support the library in purchasing over 400 books, including series like:
·         39 Clues
·         Rainbow Fairy
·         Dinosaur Cove
·         Graphic Novels
·         Guinness Book of World Records
·         Award winners: Monarch, Bluestem, Caudill
·         Reading Olympics books
And…    Birthday books for our free birthday book giveaway

In addition, the Book Fair sales helped purchase teacher resources like:
·         Smart Board lessons, graphic organizers
·         Library lessons and unit plans
·         Teacher literacy lessons

Your support is put to good use!

If you are not able to make it to the Book Fair next week, please consider shopping online.  The online Book Fair will be open from Sunday, October 16 through Sunday, October 23.  NOTE: All purchases will be sent to Irving and delivered to the students’ home room about a week after the online fair closes.         http://www.scholastic.com/schoolbookfairs/2883199

And lastly, we still need volunteers to work some shifts next week during the Book Fair.  If you are able to help out, please contact Talley Hann talleyhann@gmail.com.

We will keep you posted on our progress next week of reaching our goal of selling over 1,400 books!

Calling all Irving Readers!

Book fair is here and Reading is Out of This World!  Now we need your help to make it even better than last year!  Below is the schedule of when we need volunteers.  We sold approximately 1200 books last year and we are shooting to sell over 1300…every hour you can help will get us closer to our goal!  Let me know when you can help…feel free to work more than one shift if you can. Please arrive 30-15 mins. ahead of time so you can get settled.  I will email you the day ahead so you are reminded of your shifts.

Email me back ASAP…we need 1 person during school hours and 3-4 people after school to make this happen!  We will even have 2 checkout lanes again!  Yeah!

Room Parents Needed – Please volunteer

Looking for a volunteer opportunity within your child’s classroom? Please consider becoming a room parent.  We try to have three room parents per class.  The commitment is what you make of it–as much or as little as you feel comfortable giving.  We welcome ALL returning and new parents to this network of volunteers.  If you have any questions regarding the work involved, please e-mail Laona Fleischer at lafleischer@sbcglobal.net. Thanks for your consideration, Laona Fleischer and Jen Purrenhage.
