It’s spring, and almost time for Irving’s garden club! (Ver abajo para español) Who: free and open to all!
When: Most Fridays in Spring, weather permitting, until the end of school. Right after dismissal, 3:05 to 4:15
First garden club Friday April 10
Where: Irving’s Book Worm Garden (south side of building)
Registration?:No! Kids just show up with a grown up who will be responsible for them (grownups don’t need to garden but we do ask them to stay during garden club to help supervise kids and tools)
Do I need gardening experience? No! All experience and interest levels welcome. This garden has something for everyone, and everyone has something to learn no matter their experience level. The more people, experiences, and ideas, the better!
Do I need to bring tools? No. We have tools and gloves in the shed, but feel free to bring your own gardening gloves if you like.
What does garden club do? Come and see! We don’t mind if you pop in and then head out early. Come once, come a few times, or come every week; we’re happy to see you whenever you come.
Our routine: we start off with a snack and a story (that relates to gardens or plants, or what we’re planting that day), then we dig, plant, weed, turn compost and more. It’s all kid friendly and very engaging. Sometimes we have special guests, like the Oak Park Public Library Book Bike or Irving staff, to help us with story time or a garden activity.
How long does garden club run? Weather permitting, we’ll start back up for the season the first Friday in April, 4/10 and go through the end of school.
(Garden club is totally volunteer run, so if we have scheduling conflicts, we have to cancel for that day. We may have conflicts on 5/22 so we’ll let you know about that, and any other dates). How do I know if garden club is canceled? If it’s raining and chilly, or unpleasant for gardening, we will cancel. We always cancel if there is thunder or lightening. We will post on Irving’s Parent Facebook page, and if the weather is bad and you don’t see us in the garden after school, garden club has been canceled for that day. Questions?
