Ways to Get Involved

There are SO many ways to get involved at Irving and we would LOVE your help in any way you can spare! Just to name a few:

  1. Become a Room Parent – Get a direct connection into your student’s classroom! We would love to have two room parents per classroom, but are especially in need of parents in rooms that have NO volunteers yet; check here to see if your student’s classroom still needs help! Once all of our slots are full, we will schedule a short kick-off meeting to get everyone on the same page and ready to hit the ground running. You can also learn more about what the role involves here.
  2. Lead or Join a Committee – From helping with planning extracurriculars like our “Eagle Extras” to the book fair, the school yearbook, and everything in between, we would LOVE your help! Please reach out to our Volunteer Coordinators and let them know you’re interested!
  3. Volunteer for One-Time Only Opportunities – If you’re not sure you have time for any regular, ongoing commitments, we would still love your help! Please submit this form to indicate your interest and we will reach out when help is needed with things like event set-up, manning the cash register at one of our fundraisers, delivering new family yard signs or other one-time only activities.

New Families Night & First PTO Meeting

It’s a double feature! Are you and your student new to Irving? Did your student just start kindergarten, or maybe your older student transferred from another school? Maybe your student attended Irving last year but you still feel “new” due to the disconnectedness we’ve all experienced over the past couple of years! Please join us Thursday, Sept. 8 at 6pm in the school lunch room to hear from our principal Ms. Mura and some of our PTO members about all the happenings at Irving School! Then head on over to the library for our first PTO meeting of the year at 7pm. We will be discussing open board positions, upcoming events, and more! If you can’t make the PTO meeting in person, join us on zoom at 7pm:

SMART Math Program

SMART will be offering a 6-week fall program to give current 2nd through 5th graders an extra boost in math, in the early evenings starting the week of October 10th. New this year based on feedback from parents and teachers: SMART will have both “regular” and “advanced” math classes this fall. The “regular” classes will practice and reinforce grade-level material and the advanced classes will go beyond grade-level material. Sessions will be taught by D97 teachers over Zoom. Students from any elementary school in Oak Park and River Forest are welcome. Total cost is $72 for the full term. Financial aid is available for those who need it.

Join the nearly 300 students who participated in the SMART program last year. For more information and to register by Friday, September 23, visit www.smart-oakpark.org.

Curriculum Night

Please join us INSIDE the school for curriculum night on Wednesday, August 31st! Childcare will be provided. Please note that because this is an indoor event, masks are required.

Please also be on the lookout for room parent sign-ups during the event! If you want to get more involved with your student’s classroom, this could be a great opportunity. Read more HERE about what the room parent role involves and reach out to Jessica Royer Ocken with any questions!

We hope to see you on Wednesday!

K-2 Sunday Meet-ups!

Is your student new to Irving or just looking to meet some new friends? Come meet some of their potential new classmates at the school playground on a Sunday afternoon before the start of school! These very casual come-as-you-are meetups begin at 3:30pm for kindergarten students, 4:30pm for incoming first graders and 6:30pm for incoming second graders. We hope to see you there!
