ISAT letter for parents

Dear Irving Families:

Beginning Tuesday, March 4th, children in grades 3, 4, and 5 will be taking the Illinois Standards Achievement Tests (ISAT).  These tests measure student performance as it relates to the Illinois Learning Standards and classroom curriculum.  All public school children across the state are required to participate in the ISAT testing program.  ISAT is used as a means for program assessment for our school and is one of several measures for determining individual student achievement.

Irving’s testing schedule is as follows:

Tuesday, March 4 until Thursday, March 6                       Testing begins at 8:30 a.m.

Friday, March 7 (4th grade only Science)                            Testing begins at 8:30 a.m.

Monday, March 10th until March 14th                                  Make-up Testing

Students should make every effort to be present and on time to school during the testing week.  Should an illness or unforeseen absence occur, the student will participate in make-up testing.  No Child Left Behind legislation mandates that at least 95% of all students in each school participate in testing.  A school can be put on the “watch” list if it does not meet this expectation.  It is critical that students participate in the state testing.

Parents, please assist your child in being prepared for testing.  Eating breakfast and being well-rested will help your student to do his or her best.  Discussing the importance of the test while minimizing any anxieties your child may be feeling is helpful as well.  These steps will support our collective efforts for having each child achieve the best possible results.

Sincerely,

John Hodge

Principal

We also wanted to provide you with an electronic version of the handbook we created for the iLearn 97 initiative.

Schedule of Events

Below are the dates for each of the required information nights, which will all take place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Any parents/guardians who are unable to attend the information night at their child’s school can attend a session at one of the other buildings. The content offered at each event will be the same.

Outline of Activities

Each information night will feature the following activities:

Fees
The prorated iLearn 97 fee for the 2013-14 school year will be $15. The fee for families who qualify for the reduced lunch program will be $4. This fee will be collected during the information nights. However, parents/guardians may pay it in advance by clicking here.
Handbook
We have created a comprehensive handbook about the iLearn 97 initiative that features information about a variety of topics, including acceptable use of the devices, usage guidelines, and care and maintenance of the equipment. You can access the handbook by clicking here.
