Irving 6th Annual Swap Shop & Read

Thursday, May 8th, 6:00 – 7:30 pm

We would like families to donate new or gently used books that can be swapped. For each book you donate you will receive a coupon for a “new/used” book to take home with you.  We have a limit of 7 coupons per child, but more donations are always welcome. Start looking through your book collections for books that you would like to donate. Please insert an exchange slip inside each book when you send it to school. We will collect all the books and have them ready to swap at our Family Reading Night.

***PLEASE HAVE ALL DONATIONS TURNED IN TO YOUR CLASSROOM TEACHER BY THURSDAY, MAY 1 ***

Irving Tasty Dog Raffle Tickets at Irving Book Fair Today

Please consider signing up for a one-hour time slot to sell tickets at Tasty Dog next Wednesday, April 30th. Pair up with your kid, it’s a fun job for them. I am mostly looking for people between the hours of 3:00 and 7:00, but filling all time slots would be great.

Also, I’ll be popping into the book fair to sell tickets on Wednesday evening, so you can buy your raffle tickets then, and also sign up for a volunteer slot if you like.

The hard copies went into the Teacher’s mailboxes late last week, hopefully you got yours! Feel free to send the form back at your convenience if you would like to buy tickets that way.  Please see the attached flyer/form for a list of the fantastic prizes. Use the link below to sign up to volunteer.

Thanks!

Sensational Summer Reading with Mrs. Homann and Ms. Noonan!

Do you love to read?  So do we!  We are looking for incoming fourth and fifth graders to join us for a summer book club.  We will take a look at some of the best authors from many genres and time periods.  Then you will get to choose which author interests you most and read books by that author. As we read we will explore themes, characters and genres through a variety of activities and discussions.  At the end you will create a short book trailer using iMovie that invites your fellow book lovers to read books by your chosen author.  Who else would you rather spend your summer days with than Mrs. Homann and Ms. Noonan?  No one?  We couldn’t think of anyone else either!

The book club will meet two days (Tuesday and Thursday) a week for four weeks at the Main Branch of the Oak Park Public Library from 9:00am-11:00am.  Book club starts on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 and ends on Thursday, July 17th.  Students must have a valid Oak Park Public Library card.  They will be checking out their chosen books to that account.  Cost is $125 for the four week session.

If you are interested in joining us, please email Mrs. Homann AND Mrs. Noonan to reserve your spot!  (jhomann@op97.org and knoonan@op97.org.)  We must have a minimum of six students in order to run the book club.  Our maximum is twelve students.  First come, first served.  If we have more than twelve we may look into doing a second session.  Hope to see you this summer!
