Hello Irving Families!
I hope everyone had a great summer. I am starting to recruit volunteers for the library! If you are interested in helping in the library this year, please email me at knoonan@op97.org. The Irving library doesn’t run as smoothly without the great volunteers we have. Once you email me I will be in touch about Volunteer Orientation. I will have an orientation sometime during the first two weeks of school for returning volunteers and new volunteers.
I also need one or two people who would be interested in running the Irving Birthday Book Program. The Birthday Book Club is where students pay $17 to “buy” a book for the library. I buy the books and students choose one during their birthday week or month. My volunteer would need to come to Irving one day a week, look to see which kids have a birthday that week, get the students from class, bring them to the library, have them choose a book and fill out a sign to hang in the library. Then the volunteer takes their picture with their new book. The following week the pictures need to be hung on the birthday wall and new students will choose their books. It’s a fun way to meet the Irving kids and they students love choosing their books! The books then become a part of the regular collection. I would prefer if the Birthday Book Volunteer has their own camera (nothing fancy!) and would be willing to send the pictures to Walgreens and pick them up. Volunteers also need to organize and keep track of forms and checks, which are given to the PTO Treasurer.
Let me know if you would be interested in any of this. Thanks! See you soon!
