Call for Yearbook Photos

The yearbook comittee needs your help! We are requesting photos from the first day of school, Movie Night and the Fun Run. Please upload your photos to our Google Drive HERE or email them to irving-yearbook@googlegroups.com and we will use as many as we can for this year’s yearbook.

Thanks for your help and please reach out to our yearbook comittee chairs, Elizabeth Holst Schinazi and Isabel Bogarin with any questions or if you’d like to help get involved!

The Fun Run is Back!

This year’s Fun Run will take place on Friday, October 14 to help us work towards our BIG goal of raising $25,000 for Irving School! This funding will support many programs that are not currently funded by District 97 but are necessary to enhance the quality of education for both our students and teachers.

Find out ALL about the Fun Run HERE (including run times schedule) and don’t forget to sign your student up for an account at MyBooster.com so they can start to collect “sponsorships” from their family, friends, neighbors and relatives to support their school! We will also be offering prizes & incentives for collecting donations, including a schoolwide dance party if we reach our total school goal of $25,000! Stay tuned for more info, and reach out to FunRun@irvingpto.com with any questions.

Friday Garden Club

We’ve still got a few weeks left of getting our hands dirty at Garden Club! Every Friday after school, join us in the Irving garden for about an hour (approx. 3pm-4pm). We’ve got a wonderful schedule for the remainder of the fall season:

Friday Sept 30: Let’s get ready to celebrate Dia de los Muertos/ Day of the Dead!  This week’s garden club features special guest Senorita Zaragoza, who will read us a special Dia de los Muertos story. Then we will plant coriander seeds, mums, and lots of marigolds, which students will harvest to be used in our school and neighborhood ofrendas.  We will add extra color to our Dia de los Muertos bed with decorations, some of which we will make.

Friday Oct 7: What’s that smell??? Taste that Tea!! We will explore the power of our cranial nerve #1 by testing what botanical smells we can identify. We will also harvest herbs and tea leaves to take home to make your own tea.

Friday Oct 14:  Tis the season to harvest … seeds! We will gather, clean, and label various seeds from the garden to plant for next year. Beans, flowers, dill, and herbs are just some of the seeds you need only buy once. We will find the hidden celery to cut up and taste right out of the garden. Special guest Ms. Koransky will guide us in making botanical mendalas, a peaceful art form that is a delight to behold.

Friday Oct 21: Bugs and Book Bike for a Halloween Spooktacular Garden Club! Come celebrate our last garden club of the season with OP’s Public Library Book Bike and story time. We will plant garlic, explore decomposer bugs, track down the hidden potatoes, and do the final garden clean up and send our garden beds to rest and rejuvenate over winter, until it’s time to play again in the spring. This week’s tasting may also include eating gourmet crickets! Special guest Ms. Mura will lead us in this super gross tasting.
