Opportunity for Kids! Young Filmmakers Contest Accepting Elementary Submissions

I’m excited to share with you the 3rd Annual “One Earth … Our Earth!” Young Filmmakers Contest part of the One Earth Film Festival.
This contest is open to students, grades 3 – college who submit short films focusing on one (or a couple) of topics pertaining to sustainability. .Visit the Young Filmmakers Contest webpage for details and judging criteria. Winners in each age category will win a cash prize and matching grant, digital hosting of their film, and a world premier screening of their film at the 4th Annual One Earth Film Festival – March 6-8, 2015.
As a leader at Irving Elementary School, I’m hoping you can help us share this opportunity with students, teachers and parents! If you would be willing to forward the attached digital flier to anyone in your organization or school that you think might be interested, this would be tremendously helpful in opening this contest up to as many kids as possible!
To assist children (and parents) who want to hone their filmmaking skills, we will be hosting free workshops. Space is limited.  Full enrollments details for the workshops will be posted on our website – oneearthfilmfest.org. If you’re interested in receiving workshop information by e-mail or reserving space for a group of children from your school, please let me know ASAP  Additionally, I would be happy to send a representative to your school to talk to faculty, PTO or green-team about the contest.
Please note that all entries for this year’s Young Filmmakers Contest are due January 18, 2015.  For more information about this contest and the most up to date Film Festival news please visit OneEarthFilmFest.org.

Holiday Food and Gift Basket Program (HFGB)

Irving Parents and Guardians,

It is time once again for those who qualify to sign up for the Holiday Food and Gift Basket Program (HFGB).  This program provides families who reside in Oak Park and River Forest with a gift card for food around Thanksgiving time and gifts during the December holiday season.

The criteria used to determine who qualifies for HFGB are similar to the guidelines set up by the federal government for free/reduced school lunch.  All applicants must be part of the Irving School community.   If you do not live in the Irving zone the social worker must already be familiar with you.

You must also be the head of your household in order to apply for this program and in some cases proof of income may have to be shown.  Scheduling an appointment with the social worker is the only way to ensure that your application gets completed and turned in on time.  Stop by Irving or call 708-524-5830 ext. 6150 and leave a message.  I look forward to seeing you and I promise it will be a quick process!

All applications must be completed in a face-to-face meeting with the social worker by Friday October 10, 2014! Only one application is allowed per household/family and the applicant must sign off as the head of household!
