Irving Book Fair

It’s time for the Irving Book Fair
Monday, Oct 24 Thursday, Oct 27

We are looking for another great crew of volunteers this year! We need people for set up, stapling and collating flyers, supervising classroom visits, driving to Roselle to pick up a box of books from the warehouse each day, working public sales hours, watching volunteers’ kids on the playground, and packing up the sale. Even if you can only work an hour, we’d love to have you, especially at dismissal! We also need 4th and 5th grade volunteers after school to help with crowd control and bagging purchases.

Can’t come and help because of kids or your schedule? We have jobs you can do at home: making posters/decorations, baking treats for the teacher preview and our volunteers, or processing leftover teacher wish list items for the online book fair.  Just email Stephanie at gremlin44@gmail.com.

Our Book Fair is such a great success due to our wonderful volunteers! Our kids get so excited when they see the Book Fair truck pull up, and watching their enthusiasm as they select books is really heart warming.

If you have any questions, contact Stephanie Hartman, chair gremlin44@gmail.com.

Social Skills Project

Dear Irving Parents/Guardians,

The time has come again for a short-term social skills project! Students in all grades are needed to participate in small groups with the social worker. The group setting will be game oriented and made up of individuals with varying social abilities. Students will receive support with social etiquette, social communication, and peer interaction through structured play and group activities.

Over the course of the school year all students will be eligible to be randomly chosen to join same-age peers for 20-30 minutes at a time approximately once a week. Rotating students every so many weeks will promote diversity within the small group setting. It is my sincere hope that your child will serve as a role model for the students who struggle with peer interaction. No doubt all students will have fun! Students will not miss specials or crucial academic instruction during the 4-6 week commitment with the small group.

Click here for the letter and permission slip.

Check then tear off the permission slip and return only if you DO NOT want your child to participate in these groups. If no slip is returned then it is safe to assume that your child DOES have permission to possibly join this ambitious project at some point during the 2016-2017 school year.
