D97 Updates

Tech Night With District 97
Dear Parents,

We hope that you have heard about our tech night at the Oak Park Public Library on Wednesday, February 18th, 6-8 p.m.  The D97 teacher librarians and Oak Park Public Library staff (including yours truly!) will be showcasing all the online applications and databases that are available to our kids through both of our institutions.
Need help with resources for that academic fair project?  Want to travel light this spring break by downloading ebooks on your device?  Need help using the OPPL site to access music and online resources?  Then this is the event for you!
You will learn how to download books, and search for information through curated databases. Library staff will also be on hand to show you how to use other applications like those to access music, magazines and video content.
There are a few things that you may consider doing before the meeting to make this a great experience!
  • Make sure you have you library card and PIN number (there will be OPPL staff on hand to help you with your card if it is not updated)

Irving School World Language Program

The World Language Program at Irving School is an introduction to different languages and cultures. In these classes, students will learn basic communication vocabulary. The relaxed class environment will help students overcome their apprehension to speak a foreign language. Language skills will grow over the years of instruction.

For 2014-2015, the World Language Program offers 8 languages: Swahili, Polish, Greek, French, German, Italian, Mandarin and Spanish. Some classes will run for 1 hour every week while other will be 1/2 hour, twice a week (look at the form). Students will eat their lunch during their language class (All classrooms are NUT FREE).

Due to the new lunchtime schedule, we are not able to offer every language to every grade. If you cannot register your child in the language you want, please write a comment at the end of this form.

The World Language Program is completely independent, funded solely by tuition paid by families of participating children. World Languages are sponsored by the PTO, endorsed by the School Board, and encouraged by the staff and principal of Irving School.

Presentation from Common Core Elementary Math Night
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the Common Core Elementary Math Night at Brooks Middle School yesterday. We hope the information you received about mathematics and strategies will aid your efforts to support your child’s learning at home.
